You wrote a banger post…
The likes are flying in faster than free samples at Costco.
Comments stacking up like pancakes at a Sunday brunch.
Your phone won't stop buzzing.
Feels good, right?
Now let me ruin your morning.
None of that is money.
Likes don't pay rent.
Comments don't buy groceries.
Shares don't put your kid through college.
I learned this the hard way.
Wrote a post one time that got more love than a puppy at a kids' park.
Checked my bank account the next day. Same sad number staring back at me.
Turns out the algorithm doesn't do Venmo.
But it does do this, which most founders completely ignore…
Every person who liked, commented, or shared your post just raised their hand!
They told you, in front of everyone, that they care about what you said.
That is a hot lead doing a little dance for you.
And most founders just… wave back.
They smile at the notifications.
Maybe heart a few comments.
Then go pour another coffee and wonder why their pipeline looks like a ghost town.
Don't be that founder…
If a post hits, you or your team should be in the DMs that same day.
Not next week.
Not "when you have time."
That day.
Thank them for the comment.
DM them a simple question.
Start a real conversation like a real human being.
No weird sales pitch in the first message. Or 14 paragraph copy-paste that screams bot.
But please, just talk to them.
Because a banger post is not a win.
A banger post is a starting line.
All the good things happen in the DMs.
That's where trust gets built.
That's where offers are made.
That's where the money actually shows up.
So next time a post pops off, don't sit there refreshing the like counter like it's a slot machine.
Open the DMs.
Send the messages.
Treat every notification like a tiny waving hand saying "hey, I'm interested."
Likes feel amazing… sure.
But likes don't feed the dog Revenue does.
