A client asked you to drop the price…
Your hand started to shake.
You wanted the deal so bad you could taste it.
Rent is due. Brain screams "just say yes." So you blurted out a smaller number...
And you just did the worst thing ever…
Because the second you drop the price, you tell them one thing:
"My first price was a big fat lie."
Think about it. If you could do the job for less... why didn't you say so at the start?
Now they don't trust you.
They think you tried to rob them. And now they wonder how LOW you can really go.
They will push. And push. And push some more.
Like a kid begging for candy in the store.
So here's the rule:
Never change the price. Change the scope.
What does that mean?
It means if they want to pay less... they get less. Simple.
You want a cheaper price? Cool. Then you get fewer things.
Maybe they wanted five blog posts. Now they get three.
Longer timeline. Maybe they wanted it all done by Friday. Now they get it in two weeks.
See what just happened? The price went down. But so did the work.
Now the client feels smart. They got a "deal." And you? You kept your worth.
Or they’ll realize they want the whole big package, and value it more.
The price always needs to match the work.
Less money, less work. That's fair. That's clean.
"Sure, I can hit that budget. To get there, we drop two posts and push the date out two weeks. Want me to send it over?"
Boom. You did not beg. You did not shrink. You did not chop your worth in half.
You gave them a choice. And a choice feels good. A cut feels cheap.
The funny thing about this strategy…
You’ll probably just sell more of your regular offer, at your regular price.
Most folks?
They panic.
They see the sad face on the client.
And they slash the price by a third.
Same work. Same hours. Same stress. Just less cash in the bank.
That's not a discount. That's you paying THEM to let you work for them.
So next time a client says "can you do it cheaper?"... don't touch the price.
Touch the scope. Take something off the table. Make them trade for it.
Like a burger. You want the cheap one? Fine. But don't cry when there's less meat on the bun.
A real business doesn't just have a price. It has a value.
And value never goes on sale. It just gets bigger or smaller.
So hold your price. Change the scope. Watch your worth stay strong and bank account get fatter.
