Court hearings in the afternoon are 60% more likely to drop a guilty verdict.
It’s called decision fatigue - and it doesn’t only mess with judges (why I’m sharing this)…
It’s the same reason morning meetings are kicking your productivity off a cliff.
How does the same decision fatigue that’s throwing out guilty verdicts like candy on Halloween affect your workday?
Well, we all start the day with a full tank of mental energy, like a freshly charged phone.
Every decision we make, every task we complete, every tiny choice we have to think about? It drains that battery.
Slowly but surely, we burn through it.
The problem? Most of us waste that premium mental juice on endless standups that don’t really move the needle.
By the time we get around to the big important projects that actually drive results, we’re mentally fried.
A Harvad study found that employees spent 71% of their time in meetings or on tasks related to them, and considered that time unproductive.
Yikes.
I’m sure you can relate…
I won’t bore you with the science, but if you’re curious just ask GPT about decision fatigue. It’s a thing.
My point is, most teams have it all wrong.
They spend their peak mental hours on the wrong stuff, meetings often being one of them.
Instead of investing that prime brainpower into big-impact projects, they spend it on… meetings.
And that’s why morning meetings are secretly sinking your team’s productivity (big time).
Meetings aren’t inherently bad… It’s when they happen that causes the problem.
And I’m not saying you should kill all meetings (maybe some?).
But you can make a small shift that has a big impact: move them to the afternoon.
The fix is simple… Guard your mornings like they’re gold.
Block them off for high-impact work and push meetings to the PM.
Unless you’re in sales or customer support, prioritize the stuff that actually makes a difference.
Now, imagine if your whole team got on board with this…
Boom. Productivity through the roof.
Simple, not easy… I know… But don’t fall into this trap.
Maybe mention this at your next meeting - it might just be the most impactful thing you discuss.
See you all next Thursday 👋
