You never need as long as you think…
Understanding Parkinson’s Law is one of the best ways to save hundreds of hours and gain back 🕑
What is Parkinson’s Law? 👇
In simple terms…
It will take as long as you give yourself to complete something, and productivity generally looks something like this:
Initially, you make great progress toward your goal. But then effort rapidly decreases over time until the decided end date.
It’s helpful to be mindful of this particularly for meetings and projects.
Meetings:
This is why weekly meetings are typically great for businesses. When people have to get something done for a meeting, they wait until the last minute and usually finish it. To a certain degree, the more you can increase the meeting interval, the more spikes in effort that you get.
BUT, keeping Parkinson’s Law in mind, it also means that you likely don’t need the meeting to be as long as you think.
Projects:
Remember, it’s going to take as long as you give yourself to complete something…
Convincing yourself and others that less time is needed will typically result in the same quality of work, done quicker.
Go ahead and try it:
- Shorten the due dates of your projects
- Increase the frequency of your meetings
- Shorten the length of your meetings
