The Power of 3-Block-Days

We all have been there — Trying to fit a mountain of tasks into one day, staring at a to-do list that seems endless, feeling the hours slip by, and at the end of the day wondering where all the time went. It’s a common struggle, balancing client work, content creation, meetings, and all the unforeseen tasks that pop up, creating a sense of overwhelm and leaving little room for focus.

Because I know this struggle all too well, I want to share a simple strategy I’ve used over the last few years to bring more focus and productivity to my day.

It’s quite simple. Break your days into blocks of three. Morning, afternoon, and evening, and only tackle one major goal for each block (max). Here’s how I do it:

Morning: Proactive Block

Start your day with a proactive approach. This is the time for focused, uninterrupted work. For me, this involves avoiding calls, meetings, messages, or emails and dedicating my morning to the things that I think matter most. For now, it typically looks like this:

  • Client work (systems implementation)
  • Content creation for the following week
  • Weekly reviews (you can read more about these Here)

This is your opportunity to get ahead.

Afternoon: Reactive Block

This is a good time to schedule calls and meetings or attend to emails. I often batch all of my client calls into a single day of the week to free up more time for my proactive blocks.

Evening: Reflect and Relax

Reflect on the day's achievements and unwind. Use this time to recharge and spend time with loved ones or indulge in a hobby. But, if you have to put in some work (it happens), dedicate it to a single goal. Again, if you follow this system, the max is three per day.

You may decide to structure your blocks in a completely different way; this is just what works for me. But if you can at least break up your days into blocks of three, and allocate one goal for each, it will help you prioritize, feel less overwhelmed, increase productivity, and create a sense of accomplishment.

Go ahead and try it:

  • Look at your days in blocks of three
  • Clarify the goal(s) for the day
  • Assign one goal per block

See you all next Thursday 👋
