Work hours are old-school.
Time blocks are the future.
Work hours = Reactive hours
A set window of time where you’ll be available to others, handle email, do meetings, and just maybe, actually work on projects.
Studies now show that trying to work for 6-8 hours straight is not a productive strategy.
But I’m not saying don’t show up for work… I’m saying to start time blocking what you need to get done rather than simply winging it.
This goes for everyone - solopreneurs, business owners, CEOs, employees, everyone.
Time blocks force you to:
1. Prioritize what matters most
2. Be realistic about what can get done
2. Say no to everything (and everyone) else
It’s one of the most effective ways to stop being reactive, and start being proactive.
“But I have to handle emails and customer support!” - Great, so time block it in your day, cut out the noise, and achieve Inbox 0.
Going with the flow is one of the worst strategies. You don’t push forward on your goals, spend all day being reactive, and get burnt out.
You might not “feel” burnt out, but mental fatigue is a real thing. There’s a ton of science behind this too.
In my opinion, there’s no worse feeling after working a 14-hour day and feeling like you didn’t push anything forward.
I’ve been there, many, many times.
And if you think that you *had* to spend 14 hours doing what you were doing, then you need to start automating or delegating some of your responsibilities, ASAP.
Stop justifying it, and start time blocking.
It may take some time the first time around to clarify what you should prioritize, but you’ll feel relieved as soon as you start taking back control.
Results > Time
Look at your calendar tomorrow and create 1-3 time blocks with your top 3 priorities. I guarantee this will feel better, you’ll have more time, and get a lot more done.
