I was at the gym the other morning, mid-workout, when it hit meā¦
I love knowing when Iām DONE.
When Iāve hit my goal and can walk out feeling accomplished.
And then I realizedā¦
This isnāt just a gym thing. Itās everything.
- how I structure my days
- how my company runs
- how I execute projects
Most founders? They just wake up and grindāworking endlessly until some random cutoff time.
Worse, they jump into processes with no clear finish line. Or start projects with no real definition of success.
Thatās the business equivalent of hitting the gym with no planābrutal, exhausting, and impossible to win.
And if you never define what done looks like⦠youāll always feel like youāre behind.
So hereās my framework to define ādoneā:
ā 1. Work Days ā One or Two Big Wins
I set 1-2 mission-critical goals for the day. Once theyāre done? Iām out.
Maybe thatās 4 hour day⦠or maybe itās a 10-hour day. But Iām always being intentional.
Time Blocks > Endless Work Hours
ā 2. Processes (IN the Business) ā Define the Last Step
Every process needs a clear finish line.
Example: If the task is handling customer requests, ādoneā = a screenshot of Inbox Zero by EOD.
ā 3. Projects (ON the Business) ā Success Checklist
Before starting a project, I define what success looks like.
Create a checklist of every box that needs to be ticked before calling it complete.
The shift here?
Going from reactiveāendlessly chasing unfinished workā¦
To proactiveāknowing exactly when to call it a win.
Without this, youāll always feel like there are a million open loops in your head. No real stopping point. No closure.
And thatās how burnout creeps in.
But when you set clear finish lines? You get to disconnect, rest, rechargeāand actually celebrate wins.
Thatās what builds momentum. Thatās what creates real progress.
Always start with the end in mind.
